Frequently Asked Questions

The app does not recognize the sensors and stays on configuring
  1. Check both sensors are in the correct mode (cadence or speed). If they are not recognized after setup they likely ended up in the same mode. Repeat the procedure.
  2. Keep Spiny and the sensors within 30 cm of the phone.
  3. Move the sensors slightly to wake them and perform setup off the bike.
  4. Re-sync in the app under Settings → Sensors.
Sensor LEDs do not show when inserting the battery
  1. Make sure there is no protective film under the coin cell.
  2. Try configuring in a darker environment. The cadence sensor blue LED can be dimmer.
  3. LEDs blink on the front only for a few seconds after inserting the battery then stay off.
Sensor LED color does not match the expected color
  1. Twist the sensor cap remove the battery insert it again close the cap and check the color.
  2. If it matches the desired mode you are done.
  3. If not remove and insert the battery again. It toggles between red and blue each time.
The app does not show the sensors battery percentage
  1. Move the sensors and wait a few seconds for the info to refresh.
  2. Review the setup steps in the manual.
  3. Re-sync under Settings → Sensors.
Spiny turns on with 2 red LEDs

Activation required. Download the SPINY app and follow the activation steps.

The app will not connect to Spiny
  1. Ensure phone Bluetooth is on and permissions are granted.
  2. Make sure Spiny is on and the phone is within 30 cm.
  3. Verify Spiny is not connected to another phone.
Sensors do not show battery level in the app
  1. Move the sensors to wake them and try again.
  2. Review the configuration per the manual.
  3. Re-sync under Settings → Sensors.
  4. Replace the coin cell and set up the sensor again.
Spiny is on and sensors have charge but the motor does not assist
  1. Check the main battery is charged.
  2. Ensure the cadence sensor is on the inner side of the pedal as close to the axle as possible.
  3. Ensure the speed sensor is on the rear wheel firmly secured with its rubber ring.
  4. Confirm both sensors are synced in the app (Settings → Sensors).
  5. Make sure an assist mode is active such as ECO SPORT or TURBO.
The motor starts and stops intermittently while pedaling
  1. Verify sensor installation is correct. See the manual.
  2. Check cadence on the inner pedal near the axle and speed on the wheel.
  3. Make sure you are not exceeding 25 km/h.
All Spiny LEDs are red and the motor does not spin
  1. Check the Spiny battery charge.
  2. Check the sensor batteries.
  3. Verify the sensors are in the correct position. Cadence goes on the inner pedal side.
  4. Check sensor sync in the app.
The motor spins but does not push properly
  1. Check the main battery charge.
  2. Review installation. If the motor does not press firmly on the tire it may slip. Repeat support positioning and movement limit steps.
  3. Check the assist mode in the app.
  4. Inspect the friction roller. Replace it if the tread is worn.
  5. If the motor overheats protection will reduce power until it cools down.
The motor is very noisy
  1. Review installation and positioning. Incorrect adjustment increases noise.
  2. Knobby tires are noisier than slick tires.
Firmware update fails
  1. If it does not update power cycle the unit. Close and reopen the app and try again.
  2. If it stops and a blue light remains turn it off and on then retry the update.
  3. If it keeps failing try with another phone.
  4. Try updating while connected to Wi-Fi.
Excessive wear on the motor rubber
  1. Verify the motor presses firmly on the tire at the top position.
  2. Check fixed support position using the gauge.
  3. Review installation manual steps 8 9 and 10.
Spiny shows 6 red LEDs and the motor does not spin

The motor does not spin freely

  1. Check that nothing is stuck between the motor and the mount.
  2. If it does not spin freely remove the side cover of the adjustment system and check again.
  3. If it spins freely power cycle the unit.
  4. If the issue persists contact support.
Spiny rotates or moves from its position
  1. Check that the base is firmly attached to the frame and screws are tight.
  2. Tighten both screws evenly and use the supplied lock washers.
  3. Confirm rubber adapters A or B are installed correctly. You can combine them for more firmness.
Spiny does not charge
  1. Ensure the charger is connected to a live outlet. Try another outlet if needed.
  2. Ensure the plug is fully inserted into Spiny charge port with no play.
  3. During charging the charger LED is red and turns green when complete. Full charge takes about 4 hours.
  4. You can see the charge status in real time in the Spiny app.
The Bluetooth remote does not connect or respond
  1. Turn on Spiny and hold the remote center button. The bike must be stopped.
  2. If this is the first time put Spiny in pairing mode with two taps on the front button.
  3. Make sure the remote battery is charged.
  4. If the issue continues repeat the pairing process.
